Last month, on Friday 13th September, we were delighted to celebrate Blackburn Drama Club’s 75th Birthday at Foxfields Country Hotel in Billington. We were delighted to be joined by members and friends, both past and present. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the club’s achievements and for friends to get together to reminisce. On the evening Eric Nolan and Andrew Smith were presented with their NODA Gold Awards for 50 Years Service to Blackburn Drama Club.
Our next production of Debbie Isitt’s black comedy, ‘The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband’ is on at the Blackburn Empire Theatre on 20th to 23rd November, 2019.
Kenneth and Hilary have been married nearly twenty years, but as middle age approaches, Ken finds himself in the arms of another woman. Laura appears to be everything that is missing from Ken’s life with Hilary – young, slim, attractive and a vibrant free spirit – but his little fling quickly becomes desperately out of hand. Juggling the affections of two women, he is soon forced to confront the truth and leaves Hilary for Laura. Only one problem… Laura can’t cook. As time passes, Kenneth mourns the loss of Sunday roasts and haute cuisine, and the life he once knew. When Hilary invites Ken and Laura over the dinner, he readily accepts, unaware of what delicacies Hilary plans to serve. The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband is a highly entertaining exploration of the old adage, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”!
